The French government awarded motorway operator APRR the contract to take over operation of the A75 motorway and upgrade it to 6 lanes between the A71 junction at Clermont-Ferrand and interchange 5 at Saint-Amant-Tallende in the local authority area of Le Crest. The project is designed to:

  • improve traffic flow
  • increase safety
  • be more eco-friendly

This is the context in which a 100% NGE consortium was appointed by APRR to carry out this TOARC SUD (Earthworks, Engineered Structures and Communication Replacement) contract.

One of the requirements stated by APRR is to carry out the structural work on junction slip roads while keeping them open for the very high daily traffic volumes they carry.

To comply with this requirement, the work on bridges will be carried out in half- and/or quarter-structures and in pairs of structures to enable flow of traffic to continue. Hence the decision to use prefabricated bridge decks.
