Ile de Saint-Louis in Senegal: NGE selected to carry out restoration works (public and private heritage) on this UNESCO World Heritage Site

The Agence nationale chargée de la Promotion des Investissements et des Grands Travaux (APIX) of Senegal has entrusted NGE, French construction group present in Senegal since 2017, with the project to build the Saint-Louis craft village and to complete the redevelopment works of Place Baya Ndar (formerly Place Faidherbe) and Avenue Jean Mermoz.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, Ile Saint-Louis is a landmark of Senegalese heritage, both for its role in collective memory and for its significance in the region’s tourism and economic development. Saint-Louis has always benefited from specific preservation measures, reinforced since 2018 by the launch of a large-scale restoration programme initiated by the Senegalese government via APIX.

Located in the centre of the island, Place Baya represents the heart of the city, beyond its strong historical and symbolic value. The urban redevelopment project led by NGE includes the renovation of the forecourt using exposed aggregate concrete, installation of public lighting, creation of an open-air cinema space, installation of urban furniture, and the greening of part of the square.
